Turmeric kalkandu Milk

I have been asked my friends to share some home recipes (kai vaithyam) that can cure cough, sore throat, menstrual pains, Illness etc., So from now on, I will be posting my grandma kaivaidhyam tips to ease all. To start with let me post the most simple, comforting warm turmeric milk. This is very good for cough and relieving stress. No kitchen is complete without Turmeric. It has many health benefits. And ofcourse good anti inflammatory, antioxidant, plus antiseptic agent. Usually in our house, especially during festival time, granny used to apply coat of turmeric on the wall entrance. This helps to prevent incoming of any bad dragon evils to the house. Apart from these, it has good manganese content, which helps to cure inflammatory bowel movement. Recent clinical research shows that Turmeric can prevent prostate cancer as it inhibits cancer cell growth and metastates in the early state itself. And for the children, it helps the risk of Leukemia. Most importantly it reduces cholesterol levels in our body. Being a medical researcher, I usually get amused by the benefits from nature. Whatever we get in nature has some benefits. Wow. Thanks to Mother nature !!

Today in my recipe I have used palm sugar. Palm sugar has low Glycemic Index and unlike white sugar it doesnot cause any illeffects to health. As well it is a perfect coolent and gives you releaxed sleep especially when you take it in night. I have already posted Masala Milk recipe in my blog earlier. This is almost similar recipe except plus & minus of few ingredients. lets check this Grandma recipe. Turmeric Masala milk.

Ingredients :

Milk - 2 cups
Ground Turmeric powder - 1 tsp
Pepper powder - 1/4 tsp
Cardamom powder - 1 pinch
Palm sugar - 1 tbsp
Ginger - 1/4 tsp (Grated)
Safforn - 2 strands (Optional)

Method :

Soak safforn in  1 tbsp of milk for about 15 mins.Keep it aside.

Heat the milk in a pan. Add palm sugar, turmeric powder and ginger. Allow it to boil. Once its in the state of boiling, reduce the flame and add cardamom powder & pepper powder. Allow it to boil further till you get nice aroma of cardamom and turmeric powder. Always do it in low flame, else it will get overflow.

Strain the contents and serve. Garnish with safforn and serve warm.

It will taste yummy with the flavour of pepper and turmeric. It is a good home remedy for cough. Stay healthy !!
